Jacques Bergerac
Jacques Bergerac, who rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s, passed away on June 15, 2014 at the age of 87, at his home in Anglet, south-west France. The French actor shared the screen with Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron in the musical “Gigi.”
Born on May 26, 1927 in Biarritz, the famous town in the French Pyrenees, Jacques Bergerac emigrated to the United States, where he began his acting career with The Beautiful Unknown . During filming he fell in love with the lead actress, Ginger Rogers , becoming her fourth husband.
Later he was recruited for the cinema of his country, as he gave life to the Count of Provence in Marie-Antoinette, queen of France , by Jean Delannoy . Along with Gene Kelly , he took part in Les Girls , by George Cukor , about a group of artists who had succeeded in cabaret, put on trial. He would rejoin the legendary dancer and actor in Vincente Minnelli ‘s Gigi , where the Frenchman played his most prominent role, Sandomir, the skating instructor who gives lessons to Leslie Caron .
After divorcing Rogers, Bergerac joined fellow actress Dorothy Malone , with whom he had two children. He ended his career as a regular on television series like Alfred Hitchcock Presents . He gave up acting when he was appointed head of the Revlon firm in Paris, a task he dedicated himself to until his retirement.
