Jackie Weaver
Jacki Weaver is an Australian actress who has dedicated her life to theater, television, and on a few occasions to the cinema. She will be remembered internationally for her big screen role as the matriarch of a somewhat quirky family in Animal Kingdom .
Jacqueline Ruth Weaver was born in Sydney (Australia) on May 25, 1947. From a very young age she acquired an enormous interest in acting. At 19 she debuted in Wandjina! , a science fiction series that had no impact outside Australia, and has since become a regular presence on television in her country.
One of his films, the masterful Picnic at Hanging Rock , where his role was very minor, was successful worldwide . Directed by Peter Weir , it chronicled a boarding school girls’ excursion up Hanging Rock Mountain, where three of the girls and a teacher go missing.
However, his presence in the cinema is rather occasional, since his true passion is the theater. Thus, he has come to interpret more than a hundred works on stage. But he has never stopped appearing in shows in Australia, like Division 4 or The Last of the Australians .
The biggest success of her film career has been Animal Kingdom , where she plays the mother of a family of small-time criminals, who welcomes her grandson into her home. “The director told me that he had written the character with me in mind. Sometimes when they tell you that and you read the script you think, but do they really see me like that? But in this case it was a very interesting character, I knew it would be quite a challenge to get into her and find out what motivated her and bring her to life”, he recalls. Her bet has paid off, as this work has been rewarded with an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress.
