Born on September 25, 1980 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, the son of Clifford ‘Buddy’ Harris, Sr. and Violet Morgan, Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., is an American rapper and actor. TI is best known as one of the artists who popularized the trap subgenre of hip-hop.
Seven of his nine studio albums have charted on the US Billboard 200, meaning TI has had a successful career thus far. He is also known for being a rapper, author, entrepreneur, nightclub owner, actor, record producer, songwriter, and television personality.
Early life and career
T. I was raised by his grandparents when his father passed away from Alzheimer’s disease. He dropped out of Douglass High School and began selling drugs for which he was arrested many times. TI was discovered by Kawan ‘KP’ Prather, a record executive who signed him to his record label Ghet-O-Vision Entertainment. TI released his debut album; I’m Serious, in October 2001.
TI’s second album Trap Muzik in 2003 brought him more popularity than his first. He consecutively released Urban Legend in 2004, King in 2006, TI vs. TIP in 2007, Paper Trail in 2008, No mercy in 2010, Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head in 2012 and his ninth album was Paperwork in 2014.
IT has also appeared in more than 11 Hollywood movies including Identity Thief, Entourage, Ant-Man, American Gangster to name a few. TI authored two novels Power and Beauty in 2011 and Trouble and Triumph in 2012. TI has won three Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, and Best Rap Collaboration. / singing.
Personal life and controversy
TI married his girlfriend Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle in 2010 with whom he has been in an affair since 2001. The couple have two sons and a daughter. TI also has two children with Lashon Dixon, a daughter from a relationship with R&B singer Ms. Niko and another stepdaughter from his wife Cottle. TI has been arrested many times and served two jail terms on weapons charges and probation violation.
TI was also involved in feuds with other celebrities like Lil’ Flip, Shawty Lo, and Ludacris. In 2015, he received backlash after his public take on 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. TI was involved in tax related matters in August 2015.
