Isela vega
She was considered one of the greats in Mexico, her native country, although she also worked in Hollywood and Spain. Isela Vega passed away on March 9, 2021, at the age of 81, as a result of cancer. “Today a woman dies and a legend is born, Isela Vega, your heart sails and your soul now rests, I am sure that we will see each other again soon, I love you here and there I hope your beloved Juanga receives you with Mariachi just as you liked, leave your legacy with us, I will honor your life for the rest of my days… I love you” declared Brenda Vega, her niece.
Born in Hermosillo, Sonora, on November 5, 1939, Isela Vega Durazo was elected Princess of the Mazatlán Carnival when she was 18 years old, which opened the doors of a modeling career for her. After studying English in the United States, she earns a living for a season singing boleros and songs by The Beatles in bars in Mexico, DF. She debuted on the big screen as a secondary in Violent Summer (1960) with Pedro Armendáriz . Shortly after, she triumphed in the theater with the comedy “Una viuda y la milónes de ella”, by Alfonso Anaya.
In 1967, Isela Vega became a celebrity in the Aztec country, for her first film as the lead, Don Juan 67 , along with Mauricio Garcés , a hugely successful comedian in those latitudes at that time. In 1972 she achieved an Ariel nomination for Best Actress for The Rules of the Game . After La cama de ella, she became the first Latina to be photographed in Playboy magazine, which gave her visibility in the United States. She debuted in Hollywood with The Deadly Trackers , although she stood out above all as Elita, the woman who falls in love with the character of Warren Oates , in I want the head of Alfredo García , by Sam Peckinpah. where she sings “Bennie’s Song”, a musical theme also written by her. “Peckinpah lived in an agony to improve his art, that’s why he had no patience with stupid people, he didn’t like having to repeat the orders he gave,” recalled the actress. “To get close to his genius, what was needed was a certain sensitivity. Sam Peckinpah was an extraordinary director, he knew everything you need to know about filmmaking. I never felt so good working with a director.”
In 1977, Isela Vega starred in La viuda negra , by Arturo Ripstein , for which she finally won the Ariel award. In Spain, she shoots Navajeros , by Eloy de la Iglesia , an elderly prostitute with whom the protagonist, “El Jaro”, falls in love. In 1986 she debuted as a director with Los amantes del señor de la noche. Divorced from Alberto Vázquez, with whom she had a child, she joined fellow actor Jorge Luke , with whom she gave birth to a daughter, Shaula.
His latest works include titles such as Herod’s Law , or Dora and the Lost City . In addition, Isela Vega had a prominent role in the great Netflix success La casa de las flores , where she gave life to the straight and conservative Victoria Aguirre, mother of Virginia de la Mora and grandmother of the protagonist clan, in the third season.
