1. After completing her high school education, she decided to focus fully on her wrestling career.
2. The Japanese meaning of Shirai is “purple thunder”.
3. At the beginning of her wrestling career, she mainly participated in the tag team matches with her older sister Mio Shirai in Japanese wrestling.
4. In 2015, Tokyo Sports voted her Wrestler of the Year. She also won the same award in 2016 and 2017.
5. In October 2016, it was reported that she was offered a professional contract to WWE with plans for her to join the promotion in 2017. In May 2017, it was announced that she had signed a professional contract with WWE. However, a neck injury was discovered in medicine, resulting in a delay in her WWE debut.
6. When she was cleared by doctors to wrestle, WWE withdrew her contract, claiming company policy forbids them from signing talent with neck or concussion issues.
7. In March 2017, she was on the cover of Playboy Weekly Magazine.
8. In May 2012, she and wrestler Kazushige Nosawa were married at Narita International Airport in Chiba. Authorities found 75 grams of marijuana hidden in the paintings. She apologized at a press conference but denied the drug smuggling allegation. The authorities also decided not to prosecute the charges.
