Interesting fact about Yaba, the pulse of Lagos

I know only a few people will disagree with the fact that Lagos is divided into two residential areas: those who reside on the Island and those who reside on the mainland.

Both areas are creatively separated by one of the longest bridges in Africa-the Third Mainland Bridge. And one of the most popular hubs or cities on the mainland is Yaba. You can refer to it as the heartbeat of Lagos Mainland.

However, for the sake of our discussion, we will limit ourselves to some interesting fact about Yaba, the pulse of Lagos which you may or may not know.

Yaba is devoid of Lagos madness

Yaba has a serene environment; it is among one of the coolest places in Lagos Mainland, if not Lagos generally. Major areas in Yaba include Onipanu, Akoka, Commercial Avenue, Herbert Macaulay Road, Alagomeji, and Tejuosho amongst others.

Yaba houses some of the oldest institutions in Nigeria

The city houses some of the oldest academic institutions in Nigeria especially those built during the colonial period; Yaba College of Technology is Nigeria’s premier higher education institution founded in 1947. More so, Queens College is one of the foremost secondary schools in Yaba. It was established on October 10, 1927. Interestingly, the school is one of the landmarks you should check out when you are in Yaba.

Yaba offers comfortable hotels too

Yaba is a cosmopolitan city that offers you everything depending on your taste and style including hotels for relaxation. Some of the hotels you can book in Yaba are Apollo Hotel, Precinct Comfort Services, Niger Palace Hotel, Hadmof Inn, and Banilux Guest House. Their prices are very affordable.

Yaba is a serious commercial center

Yaba is a cosmopolitan hub for blue-chip companies.

Tejuosho Ultra-Modern Shopping Centre and  E-centre are places where you can do all your shopping whether is conventional or unconventional shopping. In addition, there are many stores where you can make small purchases.

In general, Yaba has been billed to become “Nigeria’s Silicon Valley” — the primary tech startup cluster for Nigeria.

Here is a summary reality as I see it; people will at present move to where they aspire to as they become more successful. If by a stroke of luck, Yaba becomes better than VI or Ikoyi then 85% of the startups in Yaba presently, will not be able to afford Yaba.
