Awwal Mohammed, a 26-year-old member of a vigilante group in the Koton-Karfe Local Government Council of Kogi state has been shot dead in a shootout with kidnappers near the Agbudu community.

A member who preferred anonymity confirmed the incident, saying it happened on Tuesday night after vigilante members mobilized into the forest near the Agbudu community to dislodged the kidnappers from their camp.

He added that it was on arrival at the community near the kidnapper’s camp when the vigilante members decided to take positions and engage the kidnappers in the shoot-out.

According to him, it was in the process of exchange of gunfire when a bullet hit one of the vigilantes on the abdomen and died on the spot.“Actually, it was when the vigilante arrived at the village on Tuesday night while it is rainy at that time and decided to camp somewhere, until after the rain has subsided when they came out where they discovered the kidnappers camp,” he said.” So, shortly after the rain, the vigilante now came out to engage them, and without knowing one of the kidnappers was coming from behind in which he opened fire and shot one of the vigilantes dead,” he added.He said the Koton-Karfe local government council chairman, Alhaji Isah Abdulkarim, has been informed about the incident.

However, we further learned that the remains of the vigilante, who was a native of neighboring Tanahu village has been buried according to Islamic rites.

Newmen lamented that the spokesman of the Kogi state police command ASP Williams Ovye Aya was yet to pick calls or reply to text messages to confirm the incident.

Conversely, in another news, the governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed has sacked the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Sabiu Baba, his Chief of Staff (COS), Ladan Salihu, and all Special Advisers with the exception of Special Advisers on Security and National, State Assembly Liaison, Social Investment, and Media and Publicity.

The governor directed all commissioners to hand over the affairs of their Ministries to their respective Permanent Secretaries, while the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff (COS) Government House and other affected Special Advisers are to handover to the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Government House who is equally directed to take inventory of government property.
