Biography
Marcos was born on July 2, 1929, in Manila, the country’s capital. She is most recognized for serving as the Philippines’ first lady. (According to other sources, she was born in the province of Leyte.) She was, however, Imelda Remedios Visitacion Romualdez, the eldest child of a lawyer and a housewife, at the time. Along with numerous elder half-siblings from her father’s first marriage, she grew up with her five younger siblings.
Marcos went through a lot of difficulties while he was young. When she was eight years old, her mother passed away from pneumonia, and her father’s legal business started to fail at the same time. He subsequently relocated the family to Tacloban in his native province of Leyte. The family’s financial difficulties persisted. Marcos, a talented singer, attended Holy Infant Academy, an all-girls institution in Tacloban.

Career
In 1952, under the administration of President Elpidio Quirino, Imelda came to Manila and resided at the home of her relative, Speaker Pro Tempore of the Philippines’ House of Representatives  Daniel Romuáldez, who had three adopted children. Imelda was seen as being “higher than servants and lower than family members as a poor relative” at this time in the Romuáldez household. When Imelda’s father learned she had landed a job as a salesgirl at a store named P.E. Domingo on one of his trips, he became furious because he saw it as unfair treatment of Imelda.
Eduardo and Daniel used their power in politics and business to get Imelda a job at the Central Bank, where she worked under Braulio Hipuna, the Chief Clerk of the Intelligence Division, to assuage Vicente Romuldez’s anger.
Adoración Reyes, a professor at the College of Music and Fine Arts at Philippine Women’s University(PWU), was introduced to her by her cousin Loreto Ramos during this time. Reyes provided her vocal lessons and the opportunity to apply for a PWU scholarship. Later, she and her cousin Loreto sang three songs at Holy Ghost College (now known as College of the Holy Spirit Manila).
Imelda participated in the 1953 Miss Manila beauty contest as well. Both Imelda and Miss Norma Jiménez were chosen as Manila’s candidates for the bigger Miss Philippines contest as a consequence of the contentious results. They both ultimately fell victim to Miss Cristina Galang.
