1. His parents are originally from Atlanta, Georgia. However, he was born and raised in Los Angeles.

4. In 2002, he moved to Atlanta to live with his mother after his parents split up and he lost his close friend who was shot. At the moment, Makonnen was just 13 years old and in high school.
5. In the past, Makonnen accidentally shot his friend in the head after pulling the gun from his lap. He was eventually sentenced to 5 years probation for involuntary manslaughter.
6. At the age of 12 he was mugged by a boy from his neighborhood in Los Angeles and almost 2 years later the same boy was killed.
7. It was named after Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I, whose birth name was Ras Tafari Makonnen.
8. Around 1995, while filming Higher Learning in Los Angeles, Makonnen introduced himself as the director’s son in order to receive a free pass that would allow him to tour the set.
9. Between 2008 and 2009 he had started a blog on My Place where he posted interviews with singers including Miguel, Tony Hsieh and Lil B. He was also friends with then-singer Adele on My Place .
