The post however generated several reactions with many warnings of the outbreak of cholera and typhoid due to the consumption of this water.
@thisisOluwakemi said: “In those days, cholera and typhoid were rampant. History is just about to repeat itself.”
@kelechi247890 commented: “Chaii… Hope we won’t go back to those different coloured ice cream of early 80s, tied in similar nylon and frozen. We should be matching forward instead of backward.”
@peteregwuatu wrote: “Well, you won’t blame them. How can one buy one bag of pure water for N300. This is what we were discussing at home yesterday, I told that, we may likely return to when they were selling ice water in a small nylon bag and this has confirmed it.”
@emmanuelene10 said: “I missed those days. Welcome back dear ice water.”
@joshuaafolabio commented: “Is this nostalgia or the stubborn refusal to innovate towards cleaniness and higher standard for public safety?”
In similar news, the price of sachet water popularly called pure water in Nigeria as skyrocketed as a result of the deepening water scarcity that hit the University College Hospital(UCH), Ibadan.
However, sellers of the sachet water at the University are currently making a humongous profit by randomly increasing their prices.
Painfully, the sachet water is the only water permitted to be sold in the university;
According to DailyTimes, a patient who was at the hospital for an eye examination said he was pressing but could not use the toilet for lack of water in the building.
“I am looking for where to defecate because there is no water in the wards. If I can see bush to defecate. This place is not a good place to come. I want to do an eye examination and I have not been attended to,” he lamented.
Recall that we earlier reported that series of surgery has been postponed over four days of scarcity of water at the University.
When contacted Toye Akinrinlola, the university PRO said that the water scarcity was caused by ongoing renovation in the hospital.
“When you visited UCH what did you observed? You will observe that there is a massive renovation ongoing. We are replacing the sewage system, that is why we have to shut down some facilities.
“When such renovation is ongoing, we have to shut down five blocks. We do not admit patients except few critical cases.
“The renovation is to be completed in three weeks. The issue of water scarcity that came up this morning is very strange to me. We have shut down our water plant and we cannot bring water from outside because we have our own water treatment plant. The best is for our patients to be patient with us.”
