Actor Ian Carmichael has died at the age of 89 at his residence in Great Britain. As stated by his wife, the writer Kate Fenton, he had been ill since Christmas. Although he started out playing numerous dramatic roles, he was best known for his comedic range.

Born on June 18, 1920 in Hull (Yorkshire), he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Apparently he made his stage debut playing a mute robot in “RUR”, from 1939, and since then he has not stopped working in theater and cinema. He had a prominent dramatic role in the Clark Gable and Lana Turner starring Mists of Betrayal , where he was a captain. Another of his most outstanding titles was Tempest over the Nile , a war drama by Zoltan Korda and Terence Young .

He began specializing in comedies with a series of films by director John Boulting or by his brother Roy Boulting , who got a lot out of him in Private’s Progress , Lucky Jim , Brothers in Law and especially I’m All Right Jack , which had a lot of success. Over the years he has been involved in numerous series such as The World of Wooster or The Royal .
