I was betrayed by Pique while my Father was dying -Shakira reveals
Colombian pop sensation , Shakira has opened up about various personal issues, focusing on her family, including her parents and children, as well as the challenges she faced following her break-up from former Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique.
Having announced the breakdown of her relationship with Pique, which lasted for 12 years, during which they had two sons together. Shakira has recalled finding out that Gerard Pique had “betrayed” her while her father was in intensive care.
Shakira revealed that he was “gravely injured” in an accident at her son’s first communion.
The multi-million selling popstar told People en Espanol Magazine, “I was finding out through the press that I had been betrayed while my dad was in the ICU.”
Shakira added: “The man I have loved the most in my life, my father, was leaving me when I needed him the most. I couldn’t talk to him, or go to my best friend for the advice I needed so much.”
Her father has undergone a painful recovery from his injuries but is on the mend.
Pique was accused of cheating after the relationship was over, with Shakira infamously said to have discovered that a pot of strawberry jam – which Pique dislikes – had been eaten while she was away from home, and she allegedly discovered from there the World Cup winner’s infidelity.
The breakup has since been referenced in Shakira’s single Te Felicito, while she has also referenced Pique’s new girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti, in a new diss track, which has topped Spotify’s global streaming chart.
In that song, Shakira sang that Pique “traded a Ferrari for a Twingo”.
About the kids
Regarding her children Milan and Sasha, she acknowledges that her children provide her with indescribable strength and bring joy to her daily life.
“They mean everything to me; they are the reason I live,” Shakira added.
She also acknowledged the role of music in her life, describing it as a lifeline that saved her and gave her the courage to be herself, especially during challenging times when she felt lost.
“Music connected me with my true self when I felt I was losing my identity. It was my mirror,” she noted.
She further acknowledges that her limited free time this year was dedicated to fighting for her children, parents, and establishing a new life outside of Spain, ensuring a new home for her children.
“There are days when I feel strong, despite the many hardships I’ve faced,” Shakira declared.
“I’ve experienced things that frightened me, but I have survived them. The resilience of human beings, especially women, is limitless.”
