"I poison my husband because I hate marriage," Borno housewife

A Borno housewife, Fatima Abubakar, 25-year-old who allegedly poisoned her husband, Goni Abbah, said she did it because she hates marriage.

According to reports, the victim, the area’s Chief Imam, was returning from the mosque when the suspect, the second wife, allegedly mixed poison in his food. Mr. Abdu Umar, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, stated that the suspect was apprehended on October 19 by men from the command at Anguwan Doki.

He explained that as soon as Abbah began eating, he became uneasy.

According to him, the victim was immediately rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, where he received medical treatment but died later. After the victim’s family reported the incident at the GRA Police Station, the police chief was said to have dispatched men from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to arrest the suspect.

Umar stated that when the police arrived on the scene, they saw a large number of enraged youths in the neighborhood who stormed the victim’s home with the intent of lynching the suspect.

However, he stated that the police were able to bring the situation under control. Umar stated that men from the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department were dispatched to arrest the suspect after the incident was reported to the GRA Police Station by the victim’s family.

He stated that when the police arrived, they saw a large number of enraged youths in the neighborhood storming the victim’s home to lynch the suspect, but the police were able to bring the situation under control.

He went on to say that the suspect confessed to the alleged crime in her statement, noting that the Borno housewife bought the poison from Monday Market when she had already decided to kill him.

“Not that he doesn’t treat me well, we are also not quarreling. We are two in the household, I am his second wife and I have been married to him since 2021. But I just hate when any man comes near me.

“I don’t know what is wrong with me. Even now that I am speaking to you, I don’t feel that I was the one who killed him,” the Borno housewife said.
