“I Forgave the Man Who Held Me Hostage”: Kaduna Train Attack Survivor’s Shocking Encounter at Mosque

The survivor of the 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train attack stunned many after revealing that he recently ran into one of his former abductors at a mosque in Kaduna. And instead of calling for justice, he shook the man’s hand.

“He panicked when he saw me,” Bala told Trust TV. “I told him to calm down. He said he had repented and left the gang. We sat and talked.”

The former bandit, now reduced to a struggling okada rider, was clearly down and out. Bala, moved by what he saw, gave him some money and fuel before letting him go.

But his forgiveness stops there.

Bala blasted the Nigerian government for abandoning victims like him. “I won’t forgive them,” he said. “My wife was four months pregnant when I was abducted. She had a C-section. The government didn’t support her with a single kobo.”

The father and husband also recounted the horrors he witnessed in captivity — including watching three fellow passengers murdered right beside him.
