Humberto Solas
The filmmaker Humberto Solás was one of the great names of Cuban cinema. There he was distinguished with the National Film Award, in 2005. He was active for four decades and Lucía stands out in his resume , considered one of the pinnacles of Ibero-American cinema. Solás died in Havana, at the age of 66, according to local media that have not specified the cause of his death.
Born on December 4, 1941, Solás graduated in History from the University of Havana. At the age of 18 he directed “La huida”, his first short film. When he was 19 years old, he began working in production, and as an assistant director, for the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). There they also commissioned him to switch to directing, with the short Casablanca , from 1961. In his extensive filmography, Minerva translates the sea , Manuela and Lucía stand out . He is considered one of the founders of the movement known as New Latin American Cinema.
In 1986, the filmmaker made cinema history in his country, because his film A Successful Man became the first Cuban film nominated for the best foreign-language film. His latest works are Barrio Cuba and Adela , from 2005.
