INTERVIEW WITH HUGH LAURIE

Source: www.crash.net

Is this your first NASCAR race?

Hugh Laurie: Yeah, I’m a NASCAR virgin, but I’m very excited.

As an elite athlete, would you consider driving a stock car?

Hugh Laurie: I would love to do that, but I don’t imagine I would have a hundredth of the talent to do it – but I would love to try.

What’s the fastest you’ve ever driven on a streetcar?

Hugh Laurie: Well, I rode a track in a McLaren F1 at around 170 km/h, and it was an interesting experience. Myself, the fastest I’ve been was actually on a motorcycle. It was on a Yamaha FZR 1000. I was getting close to 160. It was unique. I just wanted to see what it could do. It was the scariest piece of equipment I have ever dealt with.

Given Fox’s penchant for cross-promotion, do you expect to see a NASCAR driver on your operating table?

Hugh Laurie: I guess it’s possible. We actually had a drag racer come in, get sick within a quarter of a mile. So, yes, I think it’s easily possible.

Ryan Newman is a huge House fan. Did you have the chance to visit him?

Hugh Laurie: Yeah, I’m just amazed at the pilots response to the show. It’s an absolutely wonderful thing. And it’s wonderful, on the day of the Oscars, to be in a place – suddenly out of this city (Los Angeles) – and to be with a group of people who have absolutely no interest in entertainment. It’s such a relief.
