Honda Motor has announced a global recall of 1.3 million vehicles due to a potential problem with the rearview camera system. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the recall affects certain models including the Odyssey (2018-2023), Pilot (2019-2022), and Passport (2019-2023). The issue is caused by a faulty communication coaxial cable connector, which may prevent the rearview camera image from appearing on the display.
Meanwhile, the recall involves approximately 1.2 million vehicles in the United States, 88,000 in Canada, and 16,000 in Mexico, according to Honda. Notably, Honda had previously extended the warranty for vehicles affected by this issue in 2021. Since May 2017, the automaker has received 273,870 warranty claims related to this problem, but there have been no reports of injuries or deaths associated with it.
Additionally, to resolve the issue, Honda dealers will install an improved cable harness between the existing display audio and vehicle terminal connections. Additionally, a straightening cover will be placed over the vehicle cable connector to ensure a proper connection with the audio display unit.
