Just when we thought we had seen it all in 2022, filmmakers made it known that what we got was the tip of the iceberg. 2023 film releases already feature a long list of some of the most-anticipated movies in the world.
From a tinselled sequel to a sci-fi blockbuster and a famous live-action film (previously animated), here are the top 10 Hollywood movies to look out for in 2023.
10. Barbie
Release Date: July 21, 2023
Barbie is a romantic comedy movie based on Mattel and Ruth Handler’s Barbie dolls. The movie, scheduled to be released in the United States and United Kingdom in July 2023, is the first-ever live-action Barbie film. Other Barbie films have always been computer-animated direct-to-video and streaming TV movies.
To live in Barbieland, Barbie has to be a perfect gentle doll and when she does not meet the expectations, she is expelled and goes to the human world to find true happiness.
The movie features Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as the famous Barbie and Ken. Other supporting casts are Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, and Will Ferrell among others.
Barbie is directed by Greta Gerwig, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, and is scheduled for release in the U.S and UK on July 21, 2023
9. Secret Invasion
Release Date: 2023
“Secret Invasion” is a TV miniseries based on the Marvel comic of the same name published in 2009. Although the adaptation is coming 14 years after, Kyle Bradstreet and Disney +’s Secret Invasion is one of the most anticipated movies of 2023.
The Skrulls invade the earth for a long time, along with alien shapeshifters who have inconspicuously replaced superheroes in the Marvel Universe with imposters.
Marvel has revealed the cast to feature actors like Samuel L. Jackson, reprising his role as Nick Fury from the film series. Others include Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Game of Thrones star, Emilia Clarke, Emmy Award winner, Martin Freeman, and comedic actress, Olivia Colman.
Although the exact release day and month are not stated, Secret Invasion will premiere in early 2023 and will consist of 6 episodes.
8. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Release Date: March 31, 2023
“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” is an upcoming fantasy adventure movie to look out for in 2023.
The plot centers around a charming thief and a group of unlikely daredevils who embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic. Things however take a dangerously awful turn when they get into a conflict with the wrongest set of people to mess with.
The movie, directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein stars Hollywood big names like Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant.
Paramount Pictures is set to release “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” in the U.S. on March 31, 2023.
7. The Walking Dead: Dead City
Release Date: April 2023
“The Walking Dead: Dead City” is one horror movie to look out for in 2023. The post-apocalyptic horror drama TV series is based on The Walking Dead characters, Maggie and Negan (reprised by original characters, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
The duo finds themselves in New York City (post-apocalyptic era) and the survivors have turned it into a bitter-sweet mix of danger, terror, anarchy, and beauty.
It features casts like Jonathan Higginbotham, Gaius Charles, Mahina Napoleo, Charlie Solis, and Trey Santiago-Hudson. It will be the 4th sequel and overall 5th series in the Walking Dead series. The TV series consists of 6 episodes and will premiere in April 2023.
6. Evil Dead Rise
Release Date: April 21, 2023
Among the Hollywood movies to look out for in 2023, “Evil Dead Rise'”is one of the most anticipated. The upcoming supernatural horror film is the 5th part of the Evil Dead franchise.
The movie sees two estranged sisters whose reunion turns into a nightmare as a result of body-possessing demons known as Deadites. They must now fight for survival and save their family from these creatures.
The movie stars Alyssa Sutherland, and Lily Sullivan who play the role of the sisters; Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, Mia Challis, and Nell Fisher.
“Evil Dead Rise” originally intended for a digital release on HBO Max, will be released theatrically on April 21, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
5. Creed III
Release Date: March 3, 2023
Creed III is an American sports drama movie directed by Michael B. Jordan. The film is a sequel to Creed II (2018) and the 9th part of the Rocky franchise.
The plot centers around a successful Adonis who is doing well for himself and his family. His easy-going life and career are however interrupted when a childhood friend and ex-boxing prodigy shows up in his life again. This time, their face-off becomes more than a mere fight.
Asides from Jordan himself, Creed IIIÂ stars other casts like Jonathan Majors, Tessa Thompson, Wood Harris, Phylicia Rashad, and Florian Munteanu.
The movie is Jordan’s feature directorial debut and is distributed by United Artists Releasing and Warner Bros. Pictures. Creed III is scheduled to be released internationally on March 3, 2023.
4. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Release Date- February 17, 2023
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is an American superhero film (upcoming) based on Marvel comics. It features Scott Lang as “Ant-Man” and Hope Pym as “Wasp”.
The duo, alongside Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, survey the Quantum Realm, where they meet strange creatures and embark on a journey that is more than they bargained for.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” also features Hollywood casts like Michael Douglas, David Dastmalchian, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Randall Park. It is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
The film is a sequel to Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018). This makes it one of the most-anticipated Hollywood movies to look out for in 2023. It will be released in the United States on February 17, 2023, as the first film of Phase Five of the MCU.

Release Date- July 28, 2023
The Marvels is a superhero movie based on Marvel comics. It is a sequel to Captain Marvel (2019) and a continuation of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel (2022). The Marvels features characters, Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau.
In the film, the trio (Danvers, Khan, and Rambeau) begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers and they must always team up.
Scheduled for release in the United States on July 28, 2023, the film is also part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Release Date- May 5, 2023
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is another movie that is part of Phase Five of the MCU. The American superhero film is based on the Marvel comics superhero group (Guardians of the Galaxy).
Still mourning Gamora, Peter Quill teams up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to defend the universe and one of theirs. The mission is a delicate one as it could lead to their end if anything goes wrong.
The casts include Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldaña, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, Will Poulter, Sylvester Stallone, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova.

Although the plot has been kept under wraps, Yahoo news revealed that the movie is due for “Christmas 2023”. It centers around the Rebel Alliance starfighter squadron from the Star Wars films.
