Atiku Abubakar is a Nigerian Politician and Businessman who is the presidential flagbearer under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 Presidential election. He is also a former Nigerian Vice President, serving alongside General Olusegun Obasanjo as the president from 1999 to 2007. 1. Early Life
Atiku Abubakar had to struggle with survival following the death of his father after he was arrested for denying Atiku Abubakar schooling rights. His father was arrested when the Native Authority imposed a compulsory mass literacy campaign in the region and he couldn’t pay the required fine of 10 shillings charges by the Alkali court.
2. Political Party
Atiku Abubakar was one of the founders of PDP, and as earlier stated, he served as vice president to Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. However, he left the party to contest for the office of president under the Action Congress following the fallout with Obasanjo over his attempt to run for a third term as president. Unfortunately for him, he lost to Umar Musa Yar’dua.
3. He once went into “self-exile”
Upon surviving an assassination attempt during the Sani Abacha regime (1995), Atiku Abubakar left for the United States and went silent there for a while before returning to Nigeria.

4. He is Hard Working
Atiku Abubakar is no doubt a hard-working man considering the bridges he has burned and the things he achieved even in his struggles. While still struggling for survival, he took a loan (the Federal Staff Housing Loan) of 31000 which was equal to his five years salary. With the money, he built his first house and rented it out, gathering up another money which he used to get another plot of land and build another house.

Atiku Abubakar as a businessman has several companies at home and abroad. But the most popular ones are his oil and gas logistics company. He is also the owner of Adama Beverages Limited and the American University of Nigeria in Yola.
6. His Unwavering Effort in Running For the office of President
Over the course of his political career, Atiku Abubakar has unsuccessfully contested for the Office of Nigerian President five times (1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019). Yet again, he is currently a presidential aspirant for the 2023 presidential election, but if this is unsuccessful again, it makes the 6th time he is contesting.
