Hamma Hammami (in Arabic: حمّة الهمامي ) is a human rights activist, Tunisian politician of the radical left, he was born on January 8, 1952 in El Aroussa.
He is the Spokesman of a long underground party, the Communist Workers’ Party of Tunisia (PCOT), it became the Workers’ Party, he became its General Secretary at the end of the 2012 congress. Nicknamed “the Tunisian Robespierre” by L’Humanité, he directs his newspaper Al Badil.
Hamma Hammami was also an active athlete in the African Club.
He continued his studies in the field of Arabic literature but he launched into left-wing activism and therefore he never taught.

Little known facts
- Following his participation in the student revolt of February 5, 1972, Hamma was arrested and sentenced to a month and a half in prison.
- Two years later, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison following his membership in the organization El Amal Ettounsi and he was released after 6 years.
- Hamma was physically affected by the torture that was practiced against him and he was sent to France for treatment., In May 1987 and in France, he was sentenced in absentia to 18 months in prison for his activities within the PCOT, of which he is a founding member.
- During Zine Elabedine Ben Ali, Hamma was condemned several times until the revolution during which he participated in the presidential election of 2014 as a candidate of the Popular Front and he was the third with 7.82% of the votes.
- On May 4, 2016, he was unanimously reappointed as spokesperson for the Popular Front. On December 23, 2018, he was also re-elected as General Secretary of the Workers’ Party at the end of the fifth party congress.
- Hamma married Radhia Nasraoui who is a lawyer and human rights activist in 1981, and they have three daughters.
