Gwen Shamblin Lara was an American author and the founder of the Christian diet program The Weigh Down Workshop. Additionally, she had also been the founder of the Remnant Fellowship Church which was founded in 1997 but completed in 2004.

In 1980, she started working as a weight control consultant, and she had also struggled with her weight during her college years. She went on to found in 1986 the weight loss program called Weigh Down Workshop without dietary restrictions, exercise regimens or weigh-ins or calorie counting. Additionally, she had founded the Remnant Fellowship Church in 1999 in Franklin, Tennessee.

Regarding her private life, she has been married twice and divorced once. She was first married to her first husband named David Shamblin. They married in 1978 and remained together until 2018 when they divorced. From their married life, they had welcomed two children: Michael Shamblin and Elizabeth Hannah.

 

In 2018, she married her husband Joe Lara who is an actor and a model in 2018. They were together until May 2021 when they died in a jet crash. Additionally, she was criticized for using the label of Christianity when setting up her business back then.

Death:

Sadly, she died at the age of 66 on May 29, 2021 shortly after her 1982 Cessna Citation 501 private jet took off and crashed on Lake Percy Priest near Smyrna, Tennessee. However, the plane was heading to Palm Beach, Florida, with six church leaders, including her husband, Joe, and son-in-law, Brandon Hannah.
