He was in charge of “James Bond vs. Goldfinger”, “The Man with the Golden Gun”, “Live and Let Die” and “Diamonds Forever”, four of the most representative films of 007. Director Guy Hamilton died on April 20, 2016, at 93 years of age, in a hospital in Mallorca. He had made the island known through his cinema.

There is no doubt that he was a cosmopolitan, since he was born in the capital of France, on September 11, 1922, of British parents. He began in the cinema as an assistant to his compatriot  Carol Reed , in  The Fallen Idol  and the mythical  The Third Man , before making his directorial debut with  The Ringer , in 1952.

He soon released some notable titles, such as  Manuela , with  Trevor Howard  as an army officer in love with a crazy woman, or the excellent war comedy  His Best Enemy , with hilarious performances by  David Niven  and  Alberto Sordi , the first as a British major whom the second, Italian captain, lets escape in exchange for a curious deal, during World War II. He would stand out in war movies years later with  Fuerza 10 by Navarone .

He debuted in the 007 saga with  James Bond against Goldfinger , the third installment, one of the most appreciated by fans. He would return to the franchise with another of  Sean Connery ‘s titles ,  Diamonds Forever , and would subsequently take over two of  Roger Moore ‘s run titles ,  Live and Let Die  and  The Man with the Golden Gun .

He was already in love with the Balearic archipelago, which he visited assiduously, before using it as a location for his 1982 film  Death Under the Sun , an adaptation of an  Agatha Christie novel . After the discreet action film  Remo, unarmed and dangerous , he retired from cinema with the comedy  With your forgiveness , from 1989, after which he moved to Andratx, a town in the southwest of Mallorca

The British filmmaker “always led a very discreet life in Mallorca,” said producer Pedro Barbadillo, who was preparing a tribute to the deceased. “He is one of the great directors of his time and, through his cinema, he made Mallorca known”.
