Graham William Walker, popular as Graham Norton, is an Irish television and radio presenter. He is also a UK-based comedian, actor and writer who has won five BAFTA TV Awards for his comedy show The Graham Norton Show.

Early life and education of Graham Norton

Graham Norton was born as Graham William Walker (Norton is his stage name) on April 4, 1963 in Clondalkin, a suburb of Dublin. He spent most of his childhood days in Bandon, County Cork, Ireland, raised by a Protestant family. He has Irish nationality.

Norton’s academic life began at Bandon Grammar School, in West Cork. He then went on to attend University College, Cork (UCC). However, Norton did nothing more than complete his studies. Norton was awarded an honorary doctorate in June 2013 from University College, Cork.

He then moved to the UK and joined the Central School of Speech and Drama to hone his built-in talents.

Graham Norton’s career

Norton made his first broadcast appearances while in the UK as a regular comedian and panelist on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends show in the 1990s. His audience took an instant liking to him.

Norton then came into the spotlight when he worked with Channel 5. He subsequently won an award for being the deputy presenter of a late-night television show.

Norton then moved to Channel 4 where he began hosting his own chat shows titled So Graham Norton and V graham norton . It was then that Graham revealed that he was gay. He had nearly conquered the UK comic arena and then began a quest to do the same in America.

He ventured into American television in the summer of 2004. On June 24, 2004, Graham premiered his show titled The Graham Norton Effect on the popular Comedy Central channel. The Graham Norton Effect was also broadcast in the UK on BBC Three in 2006.

Norton went on to present the BBC One series How do you solve a problem like Maria? On February 22, 2007, Norton’s new chat show, The Graham Norton Show , broadcast on BBC Two. For December 2011, the panel shows, What do you prefer…? with Graham Norton had premiered on BBC America.

He also went on to present a Saturday morning show on BBC Radio 2, featuring guest interviews and music. Norton has also proven his worth as an actor with his character Mr. Puckov in the 2006 American comedy parody film Another Gay Movie.

Also in 2007, Norton played the character of Taylor in the romantic comedy film, I Could Never Be Your Woman.

His second memoir titled The Life and Loves of a Devil won the 2014 Irish Book Award for Non-Fiction Book of the Year.

Graham Norton’s personal life

Norton is openly gay. She began dating fashion consultant Trevor Patterson in 2010. Norton is 20 years older than Trevor. The couple split soon after in 2013. Trevor later spoke of Norton as a pet lover and heavy drinker. Graham has not been married to date and has no children.

Norton is currently a writer for an advice column for The Daily Telegraph newspaper. Norton broke the Guinness World Record on March 7, 2014 for ‘Most Questions Asked in a Television Chat Show’ on Comic Relief’s Big Chat.
