Alhaji Hakeem Lawal, the son of the late Kwara state governor, Mohammed Lawal, has won the party’s governorship primary for the 2023 general elections for the second time.

The election, which began at 11 a.m. at the Arca Canta event center on Ilorin’s Ajase-IPO road, lasted until 9 p.m. when the election was sorted out and tallied in the presence of fully armed security personnel, INEC officials, and other stakeholders.

The vice-chancellor of Unilorin in the person of Professor Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem reportedly petitioned the national secretariat of the party that the election did not follow due process, so they had to redo the election.

After a protracted exercise on Monday, Hakeem triumphed by 606 votes over his only opponent, Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem, who received 177 votes. Eight votes were nullified.

The governorship primary election was won by Alhaji Hakeem Lawal.

Shuaib Yaman Abdullahi, the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for Kwara State in next year’s elections, has been announced.

After defeating two other candidates in the race by 518 votes, he was proclaimed the victor of the hotly contested primary election conducted at the Arca Santa Event Centre in Ilorin, the state capital.

Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq is a Nigerian politician and the incumbent Governor of Kwara State. He was previously the CEO of First Fuels Limited.

His government, often known as the Otoge administration, has been credited with a number of significant accomplishments in the state.

The Abdulrazaq administration, for example, is credited with reviving the Kwara State health sector. Abdulrazaq has begun the rehabilitation of abandoned and decaying health facilities in the State, in addition to providing the necessary facilities for existing health centers. Since its inception in 2019, the administration has hired around 300 healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists, pharmacists, and others.
The Governor announced in September 2020 that 10,000 indigents would be enrolled in the state’s health insurance program. Since then, 31,000 more indigents have been registered in the program, as well as formal sector members.

The state of Kwara now has a few cutting-edge ambulances, up from zero when the government joined in.

The administration employed at least 4,701 people in the education sector, using a method that simply looked at competence and qualifications. The Otoge administration was also able to finance substantial infrastructural upgrades across 600 schools in the state thanks to an N7 billion grant from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

He is running for re-election but is yet to formally announce his candidacy.
