Her parents owned banana and mango plantations in town and they had come to town to watch a group of girls. However, it turned out that Gotye and his band played The Basics . They became friends and fell in love at the 2007 Tamworth Country Music Festival, about a year after they first met. About six months later he convinced her to move in with him in Melbourne. They have been in a committed relationship ever since. However, since Parker dislikes the public spotlight, she rarely attends red carpet events with her partner.

- When he was 2 years old his family moved to Australia. They had originally landed in Sydney but decided to make Montmorency, a Melbourne suburb, their home.
- During his childhood he learned and mastered several musical instruments, including drums and piano. After coming into contact with electronic music, he found his touch.
- While still in high school, he formed a music band, Downstares, with his three high school friends. Lucas Taranto, one of the Downstares members, still performs with Gotye on the live shows.
