Google made a doodle of the Nigeria Highlife Musician Oliver De Coque to celebrate his posthumous 74th birthday.

The tech company posted the doodle on the front page of their web browser (Chrome)

King (Dr.) Chief Oliver Sunday Akanite popularly known as Oliver De Coque was a Nigerian guitarist and one of Africa’s most prolific recording artists.

Coque released his debut album Messiah Messiah in 1977 and has recorded no fewer than 93 albums. His dance-inspiring “Ogene” style of Nigerian high life, which blends modern high life and traditional Igbo music, has produced such hits as “People’s Club of Nigeria”,“nempi social club”, “Biri Ka Mbiri,” “Ana Enwe,” “Nnukwu Mmanwu,” and “Identity,” which remained on Radio Nigeria 2’s Top Ten throughout most of 1981.

Oliver de Coque began his music career at the age of 17 in Anambra State, southeast Nigeria with Ekpili Music.

He claimed in one of his interviews that one of the best guitarist in Africa, Congolese Piccolowas the first person that taught him how to play guitar.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi crowned him the King of Highlife based on his consistency when it comes to music. Also, the University of New Orleans awarded him an honorary doctorate in music in 1994.

He was born on the 14th of April 1947 and died in June 20, 2008, at the age of 66.
