Gombe State Government Commits to New National Minimum Wage
The Gombe State government has announced its commitment to paying the new national minimum wage of N70,000 to its workers.
Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, Chairman of the state’s Tripartite Committee on minimum wage negotiation, made this announcement on Sunday in Gombe.
According to Jatau, the state government is fine-tuning the details for the implementation of the new minimum wage.
“Gov. Inuwa Yahaya is fully determined to pay the minimum wage. He is one governor who believes that the new minimum wage is a necessity.” Jatau emphasized.
Until the new minimum wage is implemented, civil servants will continue to receive the N10,000 wage award, which they have been receiving since September 2023.
“Once we reach an agreement (on the new minimum wage), the implementation will begin and the N10,000 palliative will stop.” Jatau assured.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Gombe State has agreed to wait for the Federal Government’s approved pay table before commencing full negotiations.
NLC Chairman, Yusuf Aish, urged civil servants to be patient pending the conclusion of negotiations, saying “When the new minimum wage table is out, full negotiations will commence.”
The Gombe State government’s commitment to paying the new national minimum wage demonstrates its dedication to improving the welfare of its workers.
With the implementation of the new minimum wage, civil servants in the state can expect a significant increase in their earnings, improving their standard of living.
