Goldroom Facts
- He was given the Goldroom name in 2011 while focusing on music production.
- His stage name is derived from the name of a bar in Echo Park, Los Angeles, California. Their motto was “A good place to get drunk and find answers to life’s toughest questions.”
- Goldroom’s interest in electronics and electro-pop music began at age 15 while teaching sailing in Cape Cod, near Massachusetts. A group of children he tutored introduced him to the music of the 1960s and 1970s, mostly rock and pop.
- Goldroom left Massachusetts for Los Angeles, California because he had always heard about the city and imagined what it would feel and look like.
- The name of his debut studio album, West of the West comes from his love of the Pacific, having been a longtime sailor.
- One of Goldroom’s first memories is of him and his father in a small boat sailing near the New England coast.
- Kyle Peterson, who founded a synthpop band with Goldroom Nightwaves , was his classmate at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California.
- Goldroom was always inspired by the early 1980’s and 1990’s.
- He was more inspired by songwriters than producers as he thought that was where the talent and potential for a great track lay.
- Goldroom claimed that the music he makes was an escape device for him. He also claimed it was a way for him and his audience to relive the best moments of their lives, like the innocence and happiness of their childhood.
- Although he is the vocalist on all tracks on his debut EP, Angeles (2011) for the EP Embrace (2013) he commissioned singers like Say Lou Lou, Mereki, Ariela Jacobs and Chela.
- A well-known actress, Dianna Agron, directed the music video for his single, Until the Sunrise in 2014.
- His 3rd EP, It’s Like You Never Walked Away (2015) and its accompanying music videos were released through his Snapchat.
- In February 2018, Goldroom worked with the Global BrightLight Foundation to light up a village in Guatemala with solar lanterns. It provided a clean, renewable solar energy source for more than 50 families who lived there.
- One of those favorite quotes has always been “Spread Love,” a name for a single he released in April 2017 to honor all the artists who helped him get to where he was.
- Goldroom describes his music as “backyard dance music, beach dance music” and “modern dance music production with live instrumentation”.
