Glory Henry
He shared the screen with Marlene Dietrich in “Hiding Up.” Gloria Henry passed away on April 3, 2021, one day after her 98th birthday, at her Los Angeles residence.
Born in New Orleans on April 2, 1923, Gloria Eileen McEniry –her full name– worked in radio until she signed an acting contract with Columbia Pictures. She made her screen debut with Sport of Kings , where she played a doctor, followed by Keeper of the Bees and Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back .
Next, Gloria Henry appeared in numerous titles, most of them B-movies, until a great teacher, Fritz Lang , gave her one of the leading roles in the memorable Concealer . It gave life to Beth Forbes, the girlfriend of a Wyoming rancher ( Arthur Kennedy ), raped and murdered by an undesirable, whom her fiancé will try to hunt down, but he has hidden in a place called “Chuck-a-Luck” , a hideout for thugs run by Altar Keane ( Marlene Dietrich ).
Between 1959 and 1963, Gloria Henry played the mother of the protagonist of the series Daniel the Naughty, a great success in the United States. “Many fans tell me that they would have wanted me to be his mother. They have even assured me that his mothers were jealous of me,” she humorously recalled in an interview. “That’s funny, because I don’t know if my children agree that I am the ideal mother.”
Married to architect Craig Ellwood from 1949 until their divorce in 1977, they had three children: Jeffrey, Adam, and Erin. In 1965, Gloria Henry retired from acting to devote herself to her family, but she returned in the 1980s, appearing on shows like Dallas . Her last job was at Parks and Recreation , where she stepped in as a junior.
