On May 22, 2014, it was announced that Tognoni was cast as Phyllis Summers on CBS’s The Young and the Restless, replacing Michelle Stafford. Tognoni debuted on August 11, 2014. At the 42nd Daytime Emmy Awards in 2015, Tognoni was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress for her role as Phyllis Summers. At the 44th Daytime Emmy Awards in 2017, she was again nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress for which she won.
On March 30, 2019, she confirmed that she would be leaving the Young and the Restless. It was also reported that the writer of the role of Phyllis Summers, Michelle Stafford, would return to the series. In 2007, she was again nominated in the same category but lost to Genie Francis. She won her second Emmy in 2008, becoming only the second actress to be a recipient in the Supporting Actress category. After CBS canceled Guiding Light, Tognoni returned to her role as Kelly Cramer on One Life to Live in 2009.

Young and Restless Switcheroo: Stafford Returns, Tognoni Out!
In a rare instance of a unicast recast, The Young and the Restless welcomes back Michelle Stafford as Phyllis, as the soapmaker is parting ways with the CBS series. Daytime Confidential first reported on the reversal, citing multiple sources.
UPDATE: A rep for ABC General Hospital (where Stafford played Nina) has no comment on the status of her contract, while Y&R has yet to respond to TVLine’s request for comment. Stafford left the role of Phyllis Summers in August 2013, after a 16-year run in which she went 2-for-10 in Daytime Emmy wins. Seven months later, she debuted on GH as Dr. Silas Clay’s presumed deceased wife, Nina, who has since married into the Cassadine family (as I understand it). Daytime Confidential hears it with her GH contract, Stafford and the lonely, lonely, remaining ABC soap opera, were unable to meet the terms.
Tognoni – best known at the time for her run as One Life to Live Kelly Cramer – took over as Y&R Phyllis a year after Stafford’s exit. In her time with the CBS frother, she scored two Daytime Emmy nods, converting once (in 2017). During her days as Guiding Light’s Dinah, she earned her first two Daytime Emmy wins.
