Geraldine james
He has succeeded especially in his country, and especially on television. Geraldine James does what is thrown at her and she does it well, 35 years of career attest to that. Elementary, but not that simple.
Geraldine James was born on July 6, 1950 in Maidenhead, in the English county of Berkshire, in the United Kingdom. Her childhood and that of her two brothers was not easy, since her mother was an alcoholic, a situation that led to frequent hospital admissions and which led to the divorce of her parents when she was 14 years old. The situation led her to become aware of the problem, and as an adult she supports the National Association of Children of Alcoholics. And she was glad that her mother later recovered thanks to the help of Alcoholics Anonymous.
She studied acting at the Drama Center London, and confesses to owing much of her preparation to Peggy Ashcroft , who took her under her wing. She has been married since 1986 to Joseph Blatchey, also an actor, they have a daughter. She is a prestigious theater actress, she was nominated for a Tony for her role as Portia in “The Merchant of Venice.” She was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2003.
She is what is usually called a character actress, somewhat regal in bearing, although she can also be convincing as a vulgar woman. She has been faithful to her motto that “I don’t want to find ‘my role’ to submit to it”. She has spent almost her entire career on television. His best-known roles have been played on the small screen in prestigious British series such as The Jewel in the Crown (1984) -a true turning point in his career-, Band of Gold (1995-1997), The Sins (2000) , The Shadow of Power (2003) , Little Britain (2004) and The Last Enemy (2008)
In cinema, he worked with Pilar Miró herself in Beltenebros (1991). She has also been in the multi-oscar winner Gandhi (1982), although his role was tiny. More substance has his presence in the comedy A tall guy (1989) -with Jeff Goldblum , Emma Thompson and Rowan Atkinson- , in the adolescent version of 007 Youth Agent (1991), in the adaptation of Daniel Defoe Moll Flanders. The courage of a woman (1996), and in chess The Luzhin Defense (2000). More secondary is his role in a very successful comedy, The Calendar Girls(2003).
In recent times she has become popular, to some extent, as Mrs. Hudson, housekeeper to the most famous detective in the world, in Robert Downey Jr. version , in Sherlock Holmes (2009) and its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ( 2011). But it is also Lady Ascot in Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Cecilia Vanger, Henrik’s niece, in Millennium: The Men Who Didn’t Love Women (2011), David Fincher ‘s version of Stieg Larsson ‘s popular novel . Fair Pay (2010) is a good film about women’s working conditions, while Arthur, from the same year, is a failed remake, hardly defensible.
