The case of George Winslow is that of one of the many child prodigies who, after the occasional success, leaves the cinema forever. He came to attract attention, for his strong, high-pitched voice, and his expressionless face. He appeared on screen mainly with Marilyn Monroe, but also with other big stars, in the 50s. The former interpreter died on June 14 at his residence in Camp Meeker (California) at the age of 69, due to a heart attack.

Born on May 3, 1946 in Los Angeles (California), George Karl Wentzlaff appeared for the first time at a casting when he was 6 years old. They ended up recruiting him for a radio show where he caught the eye of Cary Grant. He introduced him to director Norman Taurog , with whom he was going to shoot Home Sweet Home . Finally they recruited him to play Teenie, one of the orphans the actor took in. It also led him to meet Howard Hawks, and he paired the two up again in I Feel Younger , where the kid played Indians, but this time he didn’t appear on screen as the charismatic actor, a shy bespectacled scientist.

He had his moment of greatest glory with Marilyn Monroe , in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes . He played a rich boy, a role written especially for him, who came to the aid of the actress’s character, when the latter, a dancer in search of a husband with money, tried to get out of her cabin through the skylight, but got stuck in the sky. her bulky butt. When she sees the boy, and asks for his help, he agrees. “I’ll help you. First because I’m too young to be arrested. And second because you have animal magnetism.”

He then appeared in such titles as Comics in Paris and Wild Legacy . But at the age of 12 he dropped out to focus on his studies. He ended up serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and upon his return home, he practiced as a mail carrier, in southern California. He never married, nor does he have children.
