George Miller

Creator of a sick, violent and fast world. Capable of taking your heart out of your chest with its unbridled sequences or tearing you away from tears with its brave little pig. George Miller is the visionary director of the famous cult saga Mad Max .

Miller is an all-rounder in the industry, writing and directing his films. He also put money out of his own pocket for some of his films like Mad Max, Wilderness of the Highway . He was born on March 3, 1945 in Queensland, Australia and is a confessed lover of action movies. He has two children from his current marriage to Margaret Sixel and a third that he shares with his ex-wife Sandy Gore. Although at first he worked as a doctor, little by little he became interested in cinema and decided to take a course at the University of Melbourne that completely changed his plans.

In 1979 he began his professional career as a director. That year he released the first part of his well-known road warrior trilogy starring a young and inexperienced Mel Gibson . In 1981 and 1985 he presented the sequels to this colorful post-apocalyptic story with strange, deranged and violent characters, and above all a lot of speed. They are tapes that tell a story of revenge, pain, loneliness and survival with an agile and rhythmic editing. At first they did not have a great impact, but currently they have a place among the important sagas.

George Miller decided to try the fantastic and horror genre with In the limits of reality , where he directed one of the four supernatural stories of the tape; In 1987 he made The Witches of Eastwick , a mix between comedy and horror that deals with some friends with extraordinary powers.

After a brief stint in drama with The Oil of Life , the sad story of a child with a strange disease, in which Susan Sarandon stands out as the fighting mother, Miller opted for children’s films, another of her great successes. In 1995 she produced and wrote the screenplay for the endearing, Oscar-nominated Babe, Brave Little Pig , a cute film about friendship. Given the success of the first part, he launched into writing, directing and financing the second part, which, although far from the success of its predecessor, was well received.

But his real achievement in this genre came in 2006 with the endearing, musical and funny Happy Feet: Breaking the Ice . He won the Oscar for best animated feature film with this peculiar story of overcoming a penguin who, unlike the rest, can’t sing, but can dance. Miller is a man who trusts in his power to make the second and third parts good, that is why he was not going to be less and five years later he carried out the sequel. It was not as successful on this occasion either, but it continued along the same path, with great and colorful musical choreographies.

In 2015, when Mad Max fans thought it was a thing of the past, George wowed much of the public with a new installment from the ex-cop in Mad Max: Fury Road . This time his return to this world was much more extravagant and wild. Although the script is weak, the “tour de force” carried out by the Australian director impressed. One hundred and twenty minutes of pure madness, rhythm, decibels, explosions and nitrous oxide in which the role of Max ( Tom Hardy ) takes a back seat to the force of Imperator Furiosa ( Charlize Theron). In short, the same elements of his previous films, but this time surgically interlocked, appreciating Miller’s maturity. At the moment it is known that he is preparing the sequel.
