BIOGRAPHY OF GENEVIÈVE NNAJI

Genevieve Nnaji is a Nigerian singer and actress who has been in the acting scene for quite some time now. She attended Methodist Girls College (Yaba, Lagos), before transferring to the University of Lagos where she graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Arts. It was in college that she started auditioning for acting jobs in Nollywood.

She won the Africa Movie Academy Award for being Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005, making her the first actress to win the award. In 2011, she was honored as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contribution to Nollywood.

 

Genny, as she is affectionately known, began her acting career as a child actress on the then popular soap opera “Ripples” at the age of 8. She has also featured in several commercials, some of which included Pronto drinks and Omo detergent. . In 1998, at the age of 19, she made her debut in the growing Nigerian film industry with the film ‘Most Wanted’.

As an up-and-coming actress, trying to carve out a niche for herself, she went through various minor roles in search of that opportunity for a breakthrough. His subsequent films, ‘Last Party’, ‘Mark of the Beast’ and ‘Ijele’ (which is still considered one of his greatest epic performances to date) – produced an icon who was loved and adored by many. .

With several films under her belt and many fans around the world, in 2008, in an effort to give back to society, Geneviève launched her clothing line, St. Genevieve, which donates a percentage of its profits to charitable orphanages. In 2009, Genevieve made history by being the first Nigerian actress to be featured on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ in an episode about the world’s most popular people. Genevieve is believed to be the highest paid and most desired actress in Nollywood today.

GENEVIÈVE NNAJI FEMINISM

Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji has said that she is a woman who has the right to choose and who can do whatever she wants. Nnaji, who spoke as a guest speaker at the recent London School of Economics Africa summit in London, said feminism is a human right, which gives her the ability to make choices at her manner.

“My own feminism is only about human rights. I am a woman who is entitled to her own choices; I can do what I want when I want. “It’s as simple as that; if I were a man, it would be the same.

“At the end of the day, I was born alone, I will die alone, I breathe alone. So I definitely have a right to how I want to live my life,” the 39-year-old award-winning actress said.

“Farming,” the acclaimed memoir film by Nigerian-British actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, starring Nollywood diva Genevieve Nnaji, is set to hit theaters on October 11, its producers have said.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that “Farming” is based on the life story of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje who grew up as a young Nigerian boy in foster care who struggled to find his identity in 1980s England.

The film is his directorial debut and stars international stars Damson Idris, Kate Beckinsale, John Dagleish, Jaime Winstone, Genevieve Nnaji and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
