Police, soldier, detective. Gary Sinise likes to be on the side of the good guys. Supporting actor in movies, he got the most recognition from him with “Forrest Gump”. As a director, he has competed at Cannes with “Beyond Ambition” and “Of Mice and Men.” On television, he is one of the most familiar faces on “CSI: NY.”

Gary Sinise was quick to show his interest in acting. At the age of 19, he created, along with two friends, the Steppenwolf Theater Company, in which renowned actors such as Ethan Hawke , John Malkovich and Joan Allen have worked . Here, Gary had the opportunity to develop his talents as an actor and director in over thirty productions.

In 1988 he began in the cinema with Más allá de la ambición , a film he directed and which was selected to compete in Cannes, an award that he would repeat with his next film: Of Mice and Men . In this film, which adapts the novel by John Steinbeck , in addition to acting as a director, he also had a leading role with John Malkovich. His talent did not go unnoticed and two years later, in 1994, Robert Zemeckis recruited him as a supporting actor in Forrest Gump .. In it he played Dan Taylor, a US Army lieutenant who lost his legs in the Vietnam War. With this role, Sinise was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor. In addition, this character inspired the name of his jazz band: the “Lt. Dan Band”.

Sinise’s career in the world of the Seventh Art had begun in a brilliant way, but the future would not lead him to stardom. In the following years he continued to work as a secondary in films by good filmmakers but which, for different reasons, were not completely successful. With Sam Raimi he did the western Quick and Deadly , and with Ron Howard Rescue and Apollo 13 . Brian De Palma , director of the great Scarface , gave him the opportunity to co-star in Snake Eyes , an irregular tape that was not at the level of the great creations of its director. With this he repeated in Mission to Mars, a work in which it became apparent that De Palma had lost his touch.

Sinise’s career had stalled in high school, but then the opportunity to work in television came along. With CSI: NY he got a bigger media presence and the chance to develop a character that suited him like a glove: Detective Mac Taylor. And it is that Gary loves to be on the side of the good guys and be a soldier, policeman or detective. In fact, he has dedicated a lot of time and sweat to helping the US military, an effort that was recognized in 2008 with the Presidential Citizen Medal awarded to him by George W. Bush.

Gary Sinise’s career in the cinema promised more than it has finally been. However, he has found his place on the small screen: after CSI has come Criminal Minds .

Since 1981 he has been happily married to fellow actress Moira Sinise. Together they have 3 children: Sophie, MacCanna and Ella.
