“Free VDM Now!” – Protests Erupt in Lagos, Abuja Over Activist’s Arrest

Protesters took to the streets of Lagos and Abuja on Monday, demanding the immediate release of social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), who was arrested by EFCC operatives under controversial circumstances.
VDM, whose real name is Martins Otse, was arrested last Friday after visiting GTBank with his mother to report suspicious deductions from her account. Witnesses allege that EFCC officials assaulted and blindfolded him and his associate before whisking them away. His mother has not been seen since.
While the EFCC has confirmed VDM is in custody, it has not revealed the charges against him. A leaked warrant, however, suggests he is being held on allegations of cyberstalking.
The arrest has sparked nationwide outrage. Celebrities like Davido and political leaders such as Peter Obi have condemned the EFCC’s approach. The hashtag #FreeVDM continues to trend, fueling calls for protests across major cities.
