Freddie Highmore (Alfred Thomas “Freddie” Highmore) is an English actor best known for playing Dr. Shaun Murphy in the ABC drama series The Good Doctor and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. also known for starring as Norman Bates in the drama-thriller series Bates Motel.

Highmore made her debut in the comedy film Women Talking Dirty (1999). He is known for his leading roles in the films Finding Neverland (2004), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), August Rush (2008) and The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008). He won two sequential Critics’ Choice Movie Awards for Best Young Performer.

Highmore began his acting career with small television roles when he was 7 years old. Freddie made his first film appearance in Coky Giedroyc’s comedy Women Talking Dirty (1999). In Women Talking Dirty, he played the son of a woman (Helena Bonham Carter). Helena recently separated from her French lover who fears commitment.

In 2001, he played a young King Arthur in the TNT miniseries The Mists of Avalon, a take on Arthurian legends that portrayed the women of Camelot as the true power behind the throne.

The story follows where Norma Bates buys a motel after her husband’s death in the quaint coastal town of White Pine Bay, giving herself and her teenage son Norman played by Freddie a chance to start a new life. Norman is shy and reluctant at first, but his mother, with whom he has a close relationship, helps him open up to others and make new friends.

Some locals, however, weren’t as friendly and welcoming to the Bates, who later discovered it was because White Pine Bay wasn’t as peaceful as it seemed, and they were forced to do whatever it takes to survive.

The drama series, Bates Motel was produced by Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) and Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights”) which was inspired by the important 1960 horror film “Psycho”, explores the formative years of Norman Bates and how his complicated bond with his mother faked a serial killer.
