Fred Dalton Thompson, a lawyer who as an actor appeared in numerous titles such as “In the Line of Fire”, became a senator, and later ran for the White House candidacy for the Republican Party, in 2008. The lawyer, actor and politician has died at the age of 73 at his residence in Nashville, as a result of cancerous lymphoma.

Born on August 19, 1942 in Sheffield, Alabama, he graduated in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Memphis, and in Law from Vanderbilt. He worked as an assistant prosecutor and as a lawyer, eventually participating in the Watergate investigation, and leading an important case, which had enormous media relevance, against the Tennessee State Pardons Committee, whose members were accused of charging for removing prison for various convicts.

When Roger Donaldson was making Marie , where he was reconstructing this affair, he asked Fred Dalton Thompson to play himself. It was the start of a long supporting career in titles like The Hunt for Red October The Jungle 2 , Cape Fear and In the Line of Fire . He gained great popularity, especially in the United States, as the Branch prosecutor in the Law & Order series .

He became a senator from Tennessee for the Republican Party, between 1994 and 2003, and ran for president, although he was defeated by John McCain, a senator from Arizona.
