Frank Lucas was an American drug trafficker who died at the age of 88 on May 30, 2019, in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. Before his death, he was put on a chair due to a car accident. He had trafficked and smuggled drugs in Harlem in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The mafia was known to buy heroin directly from its source in the Golden Triangle in Southeast Asia. He had also reported selling drugs using the coffin of deceased servicemen. Furthermore, he was also featured in the Netflix documentary series Drug Lords where he told his side of the story. Also, he appeared in the series The American Gangster and Gangland.

He was born on September 9, 1930 in La Grange, North Carolina, USA, as the son of Mahalee and Fred Lucas. He did not reveal any information about his upbringing. Instead, he witnessed the murder of his cousin when he was 12 years old. Additionally, he then stole $400 from the business and also set the establishment on fire. After that, he returns to Harlem, he begins to indulge in crimes and is soon taken under the wing of gangster Bumpy Johnson.
He traveled to different countries and got involved in a gang after Johnson’s death. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) said he smuggled the drugs into the United States with the direct link to the Asian mafia. He also said he socialized with the most powerful people in entertainment, politics and crime. Upon his arrest in the mid-1970s, his home was raided where authorities found $584,683 in cash and he was later convicted of federal and New Jersey state drug violations.
Moreover, for the crime, he was sentenced to 70 years in prison. He had provided evidence that led to more than 100 other drug-related convictions. In addition, he and his family submitted to the witness protection plan.
