Francisco Merino
Francisco Merino, secondary with more than half a century of experience in film, theater and television, died on October 9, 2022, at the age of 91, as confirmed by the Union of Actors in a message on his Twitter account. He had suffered from a degenerative disease for years, which forced him to abandon his prolific career.
Born in Madrid on September 11, 1931, Francisco Merino studied at the School of Dramatic Art in Madrid. After debuting on stage with “Plum Jam”, he lavished himself in the theater, with titles such as “Requiem for a Sunflower”, “Our Natacha”, “La truhana”, “Luces de bohemia” and “The last days of Emmanuel Kant”, among many others.
In cinema, Francisco Merino has appeared in titles such as El sur (Víctor Erice), Demonios en el jardín (Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón), El Dorado ( Carlos Saura), Bajar al moro (Fernando Colomo), All to jail (Luis García Berlanga ) or One franc, 14 pesetas (Carlos Iglesias), among others. “I think I am the actor who has worked the most in Spain. On the other hand, Francisco Merino became a well-known face on television, with roles such as that of the doctor Don Vicente in the TVE series Cuéntame cómo pasó , in which he appeared intermittently between 2001 and 2015 and which was his last professional job. He also participated in the series Curro Jiménez, La Regenta, Farmacia de guardia, 7 vidas, El comisario, Los Serrano, El internado, Águila Roja and played Francisco Franco twice, in the miniseries Adolfo Suárez, the president and El rey . He was also a regular at the mythical theater space Estudio 1 on TVE.
