- He moved to Brisbane with his family at a young age.
- He started playing rugby when he was 13. However, he decided to switch to Australian football on the advice of his father, who himself had iconic status in the game.
- He excelled while playing for Mount Gravatt Football Club which caught the attention of the Melbourne Demons and eventually led them to pick him number 55 in the 2001 AFL Draft.
- He didn’t have the best starts with the Demons and, despite his huge potential, had to play defensively first in the middle half. He only managed to score a goal in his 17th game .
- In a match between Demons and Geelong Football Club, he was involved in a horrific crash with Tom Lonergan, who lost one of his kidneys in the collision.
