Floyd Mayweather Jr fight with John Gotti ends in serious brawl
Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s exhibition fight with John Gotti III descended into a mass brawl on Sunday night after the referee waved the bout in the sixth round.
The fight, which was held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, was scheduled for eight rounds. However, it was stopped after just six rounds when the referee intervened to prevent Gotti from continuing to throw punches at Mayweather.
The brawl began when the referee waved the bout off after Mayweather landed a series of punches that knocked Gotti down. Gotti got up and tried to continue fighting, but the referee held him back. That’s when Gotti’s cornermen and Mayweather’s security team entered the ring and a brawl ensued.
It lasted for several minutes before it was finally broken up by security personnel. No injuries were reported.
Since retiring in 2017 after defeating UFC’s Conor McGregor in a cross-sport bout, Floyd Mayweather has taken part in several exhibition fights against the likes of Logan Paul, Deji Olatunji and Aaron Chalmers.
Facing 30-year-old Gotti III – the grandson of organised crime boss John Gotti, who turned a professional boxer last year – the exhibition fight was scheduled for eight two-minute rounds, with no judges assigned.
The much-anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti was a disappointing end to what had been a competitive contest up to that point. Mayweather, who is 50-0 in his professional career, was clearly the better fighter, but Gotti showed some heart and determination.
This brawl is sure to overshadow the actual fight, and it will be interesting to see what the fallout will be. Mayweather has a history of being involved in controversial incidents, and this latest brawl is likely to damage his reputation even further.
Gotti, on the other hand, may have gained some notoriety from the brawl, but it remains to be seen whether he will be able to capitalize on it. He is a talented fighter, but he will need to prove that he can win fights without resorting to violence.
