Flood Engulfs Shehu of Borno’s Palace and Maiduguri Areas

In the early hours of Tuesday, a severe flood engulfed the Palace of Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Elkenemi, and several areas of Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State.

According to local sources, the Shehu has evacuated his palace and is now taking refuge at the Government House.

A resident from Kofar Shehu expressed, “This is shocking! I have never witnessed this before. Even the Shehu has left his palace to the Government House.”

Significant flooding has also affected areas such as Lagos Street, Modugari, Post Office, and Gwange. Residents in these neighborhoods are working to protect their properties and ensure their safety amid the rising waters.

One flood victim, Usman Babagana, shared that despite receiving warnings about potential flooding, many did not anticipate such a severe situation.

“We were told the flood is coming. I never expected it this way. We didn’t take it much seriously because we had nowhere to go,” Babagana said.

Another local, Buba Jibril, who was stranded by the flood near the Post Office area, voiced his concern about the worsening conditions.

“This is the worst I have witnessed since my stay in Maiduguri. I hope this won’t lead to untold hardship,” Jibril stated.

The flood has submerged much of Maiduguri, causing widespread displacement and damage. Authorities are assessing the situation, and additional relief efforts are anticipated as they address the ongoing crisis.
