She is one of the most reputable Irish actresses in the world. She has triumphed above all in the London theater, in works by classical authors, her great speciality. Movie fans remember several memorable roles of hers on the big screen and her participation in the Harry Potter saga.

Born on July 10, 1958 in County Cork (Ireland), Fiona Mary Wilson (her real name) was the daughter of a surgeon and a physicist. From a very young age she strongly felt her theatrical vocation. After studying at University College Cork, she traveled to the British capital to do an internship at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She debuted on the London stage with the play ‘The Rivals’, by Richard Sheridan, a successful comedy, although she later insisted that she not be pigeonholed in this genre. She had such good reviews that since then directors have not stopped offering her roles, mainly in classic tragedies and Shakespearean plays.

Fiona Shaw felt like a fish in water in theaters, and she was very resistant to making movies. After roles in some television episodes and telefilms, her first feature film was Sacred Hearts , from 1985, although her portrayal of Eileen Cole, the doctor who makes the painter who is the protagonist of My Left Foot experience great improvements, had more repercussions . Right after, she participated in The Mountains of the Moon , but the seventh art has wasted a bit of the talent of the actress, who usually shoots films that are inappropriate for her level, such as 3 Men and a Little Lady , London Kills Me , Super Mario Bros. , Beware Family Blues , orThe Avengers . She has also appeared in Jane Eyre (1996) , Anna Karenina (1997) , Undertow  and The Black Dahlia . Despite the brevity of her interventions, her most popular character is Petunia Dursley, in the Harry Potter saga, where she is the protagonist’s aunt, who welcomed him into her home, being the closest relative, although she has always hidden who possesses magical powers.
