- He started his football journey at Brazilian football club, Figueirense FC . At Figueirense he used to play as an attacking midfielder.
- In 2004 he joined the iconic AFC Ajax . He was immediately transferred to the home Ajax reserve team.
- While signed with Ajax he was called up twice by manager Danny Blind. However, he never performed professionally with the Dutch club.
- In August 2006 he joined Spanish club, Deportivo . His new club had the option to buy him out for $2.2 million. The club decided to sign him permanently in June 2008. He signed a five-year deal with his new club.
- In his first season after signing a permanent contract with Deportivo he appeared in all of the club’s 38 league games and was the only player at the club to play in all games.
- In January 2010, he suffered a serious injury after Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz landed on his leg, severely damaging his right fibula. He had to miss matches for about 4 months.
