Fernando Torres is considered one of the best center forwards of the generation currently playing for both the Spanish national team and Atlético Madrid as a striker. The real spotlight came in his career when the forward scored 6 goals during the 2002 UEFA European Under-19 Championship in just five appearances. He has also played for several world-renowned professional soccer clubs, including Atlético de Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Milan. He has scored 38 goals in 110 appearances for Spain. The footballer was awarded the UEFA Euro 2012 Golden Boot and won the FIFA Confederations Cup Golden Boot.
Early life and education of Fernando Torres
Fernando Torres was born Fernando José Torres Sanz on March 20, 1984, in Fuenlabrada, Madrid, Spain. He is the youngest of three children born to José Torres and Flores de Sanz . He has Spanish nationality and as far as his ethnicity is concerned, he is white.
Torres discovered his love for soccer at the very young age of 5 and joined their first team Parque 84 and gradually developed his skills by playing the local soccer tournament. He began playing as a goalkeeper and then began playing as a striker at Mario’s neighborhood club, Holland .
The footballer moved to Estorde, Galicia together with his family, in 1992. And at the age of 10 he went on to play for the Rayo 13 team and scored 55 goals in the season. Following his impressive performance at such a tender age, he became one of three players from this club to break through with Atletico . He impressed the scouts with his crazy techniques which earned him more attention. He was finally included in the club’s youth system in 1995.
Fernando Torres’ Club Career
Torres made his first breakthrough after winning his first major Nike Cup youth title, playing for Atlético under-15s, in 1998. He began his professional career the following year after signing a contract with Atlético . He made his debut in the Division of Honor when he was 16 years old.
During his club career, the striker scored 82 goals in 214 league games. He later made the transfer for him to arch-rivals Liverpool when Atlético and Liverpool agreed a reported fee of £25 million for Torres. He made his debut for the club in a competitive match against Aston Villa in a 2–1 win on 11 August 2007.
On 25 September 2007, Torres scored his first hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Leyendo in the League Cup and another came in a 4-0 win over West Ham United a year later. Because of his impressive technique and vision, he was shortlisted for the 2008 FIFA World Player of the Year award, but ultimately came third behind. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Torres and his wife Liste are reported to have started dating in 2001. They met in the Galician coastal town of Estorde, Cee, where Torres visited with his family every year. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Nora Torres on July 8, 2009 at La Rosaleda Hospital, in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia.
