Fernando Guillen
Fernando Guillén, one of the most well-known Spanish actors by the public, died on January 17, 2013, of “natural causes”, according to a statement made public by his family, who appreciates “everyone’s respect and affection”.
Fernando Guillén Gallego (his name is not Fernando Gallego Guillén as it says on imdb ) was born in Barcelona in 1931, a year earlier than people usually believe. He discovered that acting was his thing when he was studying Law in Madrid and became a member of the TEU, the Spanish University Theatre.
As soon as he left his degree, he became a professional in the early 50s, and was part of the Spanish Theater company and the María Guerrero theater company. He made his film debut with Un día perdido , by José María Forqué , where he played a small role. It was on television where he cemented his popularity, especially in the mythical theater space Estudio 1 where he played characters like Don Juan Tenorio.
In several Estudio 1 plays, such as La venganza de Don Mendo or La vida en un hilo , he coincided with Gemma Cuervo , the actress he married, and with whom he also formed his own theater company. Both appeared together in the films The adulterer , The world goes on , The first installment and Come to Germany, Pepe . Fernando Guillén won in 1997 the Gold Medal for merit in Fine Arts, in the Theater modality. He has received the Goya award, for Don Juan in hell , and the gold TP, for the series La saga de los Rius . He has also won the Generalitat de Catalunya Film Award for La puñalada , and in 2008 he was awarded the Sant Jordi Award. In 2009 he received for the whole of his illustrious career the Medal of Honor of the Circle of Cinematographic Writers.
