Faye Marlowe
He triumphed above all with “Concierto macabre”, a classic of 1945 film noir, and he also participated in other films of the genre. Actress Faye Marlowe passed away on May 5, 2022, in Cary, North Carolina, according to her daughter, Karen Joseph, who broke the sad news.
Born in a Salvation Army Home for Unmarried Mothers in Los Angeles on October 26, 1926, Faye Marlowe was adopted by a successful Hollywood couple. Her mother, known as Fanchon, produced live shows that preceded theatrical movie screenings (Bing Crosby, Myrna Loy and Judy Garland got their start on her shows) and she also produced movies. Her father, William Simon, owned a chain of restaurants. She attended Beverly Hills High School and the University of Los Angeles High School, where she graduated in 1943.
She debuted as an actress on stage, under the direction of director John Brahm , who then offered her her first film, the aforementioned Concert Macabre , where she played Barbara Chapman, the girlfriend of a pianist who becomes a serial killer. This last character was played by Laird Cregar, an emerging Fox star with a complex about his overweight, who underwent a brutal diet for which he suffered a fatal heart attack before the film’s premiere.
Faye Marlowe then also starred in The Spider (1945), another film noir; the adventure film Johnny Comes Flying Home (1946), with Richard Crane , the comedy The Precocious Girl , by George Seaton and the war comedy Rendezvous with Annie (1946).
He returned to work for Brahm, in The Thief of Venice (1950) and appeared in three episodes of the Conrad Nagel Theater series in 1955 before leaving acting to marry and dedicate himself to his children, living in various countries. In 2014, Faye Marlowe published Fanchon’s Daughter , her memoir, where she placed special emphasis on recounting the search for her biological mother.
