FAAN Proposes Swift Trials for Touts at Nigerian Airports
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is set to establish magistrate courts at airports nationwide to address the issue of touting.
Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN’s Managing Director, announced this plan during a meeting with security agency heads at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday. The meeting aimed to update airport stakeholders on recent developments, outline the current management’s strategic goals, and explore strategies to improve passenger experience and facilitation.
“There are people who have absolutely no business being at the airport, and they continue to create issues for us. We have an anti-touting taskforce, and as it is, we are going to start the prosecution onsite of those engaging in these illicit activities or loitering around the airport environment and harassing passengers. This does not happen elsewhere around the world, and the airport should be a safe space,” she explained”.
This comes amid rising cases of harassment by touts in Nigerian Airports.
In May 2024, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo assured travelers that measures are being taken to eliminate touts from Nigerian airports.
In 2022, FAAN has detained 90 touts at Nigerian airports.
