“Expose and Expel Them!” — NANS Blows Hot, Demands Sack of VCs, Rectors Over Alleged Student Loan Scam

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) isn’t holding back — and they’re pointing fingers at the top. The student body is calling for the immediate removal of university Vice Chancellors, polytechnic Rectors, and provosts allegedly tampering with the administration of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
This fiery demand comes ahead of a high-stakes meeting scheduled for Thursday in Abuja, where SUG Presidents from campuses nationwide will converge with NANS executives and NELFUND officials to discuss troubling abuses of the student loan scheme.
From shady deductions and double billing to withholding disbursement info and colluding with banks — the accusations are serious. And NANS says they won’t sit by while corrupt school administrators frustrate the dreams of Nigerian students.
Newly elected NANS National President, Comrade Olushola Ladoja, didn’t mince words during a weekend press parley in Abuja.
“If any Vice Chancellor, Rector, or Provost is caught hoarding students’ loans or playing dirty games with this initiative, we’ll push for their removal. The Federal Government is doing its part — we won’t allow anyone sabotage this effort to make education more accessible,” Ladoja declared.
He noted that the loan initiative has already helped reduce dropout rates and given a lifeline to students from low-income backgrounds.
Ladoja also confirmed that he had met with Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa and NELFUND boss Akintunde Sawyerr, who both promised that offenders would be held accountable.

The outrage follows shocking revelations by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), which exposed how some institutions failed to inform students that their tuition had been paid directly by NELFUND — yet still demanded full payment from them.
According to NOA’s Deputy Director of Communications, Paul Odenyi, local orientation officers across Nigeria uncovered widespread cases of misconduct, confirming NELFUND’s earlier concerns.
“This is betrayal at its peak,” Ladoja said. “How can schools pocket funds meant to ease students’ pain and still expect loyalty? We won’t take it. Heads will roll if this mess isn’t cleaned up.”
